At PEAK, we believe in the power of sharing stories that inspire us. In 2015, the process of ‘room nominations’ was implemented, where Coaches could put forward athletes whose stories align with the PEAK Vision and Values to have a room named after them.

In September 2020, Morgan Spence limped into Peak New Farm with severe bilateral shin splints. After disclosing to Physio Coach Tommy that she was due to run the virtual New York Marathon in only 8 weeks, they agreed that the experience would require a significant amount of time, energy and resources to achieve. She was currently running about 25km a week, with her longest run recorded at 18km… she had a long way to go.

In addition to her physical ailments at the time, Morgan had experienced some major shifts in her personal life. After relationship and career changes, Morgan found herself spending all of her time at home and work, with little time allocated to activities that fulfilled her. After a particularly tough day at work she decided to ‘break the cycle’ and go for a run, which kickstarted her journey towards the New York Marathon.

After 8 weeks of dry needling and manual therapy treatments, a running assessment and injury prevention classes, Morgan was able to knock over the Marathon in 5 hours and 21 minutes, literally running through hail and rain! Since the marathon Morgan has embraced the identity of a ‘runner’ by completing multiple half-marathons, charity events, and volunteering as a Park Run Director.

Furthermore, Morgan recently completed an internship as a Sports Psychologist, where she now provides mindset coaching to a broad spectrum of elite athletes, coaches and general performers.

Throughout this journey, Morgan has chosen the pain of discipline over the pain of dysfunction, and left no stone unturned throughout this mindset shift! A room at PEAK New Farm was deservedly named after Morgan to honour what she has been through, and inspire others to begin a journey of their own.
