Write things down

This can help to evaluate the current situation with respect to what you are wanting to achieve. Does the situation present a challenge or benefit towards your goals? What are you frustrated about? Will there be future opportunities to achieve these goals whilst using the current time as an opportunity to become better?

Allocate your resources to the controllable aspects of the current situation

It is important to focus on the things that you can control. Can you train? Can you perform other forms of training that will improve your performance? What are the opportunities out there that you can still make the most of each day?

Engage in activities that will change your relationship with the situation

Seeking advice and support from others who have experienced, or are in similar situations can help. This again highlights the opportunities that exist. You might seek assistance from a running coach, a strength and conditioning coach, a physiotherapist, a podiatrist or chiropractor to improve your capacity to train towards your goals. Often these people are going through similar situations with their own training.

Look for other opportunities

As the world comes to terms with the current reality—various events are being created to adapt to this. Have you considered a virtual event like the DREAM BIG VIRTUAL RUNNING FESTIVAL? Have you looked into other events that are still going ahead? You could also use this time to commence a project, study, learn a language or try a different sport.

At PEAK we had over 200 athletes and staff signup to run the 2021 Gold Coast Marathon. We felt a lot of heartfelt disappointment for these athletes when the event was cancelled. But we have been so proud of how the PEAK community has responded to this, and we can’t wait to support and see everyone #DreamBig in 2021 and beyond.
