This practical course is designed for podiatrists seeking an introductory dry needling framework focused on the lower limb. You will learn a safe, effective and evidence-informed approach to dry needling that can be confidently applied in clinical practice. The course emphasises hands-on skill development, covering key lower limb muscles, clinical reasoning, safety and needle technique. Course Objectives & Learning Outcomes
The goal of this course is to teach:
- The purpose and principles of dry needling within podiatric practice
- Safe and effective dry needling techniques for key lower limb muscles
- Clinical reasoning for when and how to integrate dry needling into treatment plans
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Demonstrate safe needle handling, patient positioning and infection control procedures
- Identify and dry needle common lower limb myofascial trigger points relevant to podiatry presentations
- Apply dry needling confidently and appropriately within scope to support pain reduction and movement outcomes

Course Requirements & Participant Expectations
This course is designed for AHPRA-registered podiatrists and 4th year podiatry students. No prior dry needling experience is required.
Participants are expected to practise within their professional scope, relevant state and national regulations and their individual insurance requirements. Dry needling techniques taught in this course are limited to the lower limb and are intended to complement podiatric assessment and treatment.
This is a highly practical course. Participants are expected to actively engage in supervised hands-on practice, including palpation, needle handling and dry needling techniques on fellow participants. Attendees should be willing to both give and receive dry needling as part of the learning process. Appropriate attire allowing access to the lower limb is required.

Course Assessment & Accreditation
Pre-course Quiz:
- Participants must successfully complete a pre-course quiz with a score of 100% prior to attending the practical component ~ 4 hours.
Practical Assessment:
- You will be required to complete a technique in front of your assessor to show competency but we use this as a learning experience during the course.
CPD Accreditation:
- This course provides 12 CPD points, aligned with professional development requirements for podiatrists.
