Lumbar disc bulge physiotherapy treatment

Lumbar disc bulges are a common occurrence in people who do physical tasks that can potentially cause pain. Lumbar disc bulge is when the disc causes irritation of the nervous system structures around the disc joints of the lumbar spine. Physiotherapy treatment will first clear any neurological injuries to minimise any potential injury

Physiotherapy Disc Bulge treatment would include:

  • Advice and education
  • Manual therapy
  • Neural desensitisation
  • Range of movement exercises such as knee rocks, lumbar flexion and extension
  • Lumbar strengthening
  • Functional activities and return to sport or work activities

Physiotherapy management of lumbar spondylosis

Lumbar spondylosis is a condition that encompasses degeneration of the lumbar spine that can potentially cause pain for an athlete. Degeneration is very common and is rarely the sole cause of pain. However, if pain is resulting from degenerative change to the lumbar spine a physiotherapy can help reduce pain and return the athlete back to their usual activities.

Physiotherapy treatment for Lumbar Spondylosis would include:

  • Advice and education
  • Manual therapy
  • Desensitisation movements in flexion, extension and rotation
  • Lumbopelvic strength
  • Functional strengthening through squats and deadlifts
