As soon as Jenny started at PEAK she had adopted a prevention mindset with her main goal to be the best version of herself and strive for an overall healthy body. Starting with two prevention classes a week, she was and continues to always challenge herself to do one better on her previous effort.

With every athlete that comes into PEAK it’s all about finding their why and for Jenny her why is very close to heart. Having lost both her parents at a young age to cancer and last year her niece being involved in an accident that led her to become quadriplegic, this is a constant reminder for her to seize every opportunity that presents itself and why she uses the phrase ‘Because I can’.

At the start of October 2019 when coming in to see PEAK podiatrist, Lachie for foot troubles she made the sudden decision to commit herself to sign up for the 2020 NY marathon. This was something she made the decision to do while having very limited long distance running experience and before knowing how she would go about it.

Jenny formulated a training plan with Lachie and began the journey to New York. Her commitment to training even extended to running in temperatures of below 10 degrees through the snow while on holidays in Sweden.

The Impact of 2020

Jenny entered 2020 well on her way to achieving her experience never felt possible but like the saying goes, all good plans are meant to be broken and in this case Jenny had to do a major pivot in her plans. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the New York marathon was cancelled.

For many this would be more than enough to derail their focus, however Jenny didn’t take her eye off the ball and stayed disciplined with her training waiting for her next opportunity to arise. In the middle of May 2020 this appeared with PEAK’s Dream Big Virtual Running Festival. Jenny signed herself up for the 21.1km 10 weeks out from the big event. Facing barriers with injuries particularly from her knee that resulted in her having to significantly drop her training load, Jenny continued to power through. Finally the day arrived on the 1st of August. Starting at Hamilton and finishing at Newstead Jenny completed the 21.1km in just under 3 hours.

It is not only running that Jenny has continued to push herself out of her comfort zone with. Each week in her prevention classes she is working towards specific chosen goals. Her current one is to be able to do 50 push ups by her next birthday and still has her sights set on completing a full marathon. We can’t wait to see you tick this one off in the future Jenny!

Below is a video of Jenny’s husband, Russ talking about her journey to the half marathon.
