A way of Life
The IOC identifies three Olympic values. Excellence, Friendship and Respect. These are values which are not just relevant to sport, but also to life. Excellence is about striving to be the best version of oneself without the comparison to others. Friendship refers to mutual understanding between people. Respect for oneself, one another, rules and the environment is the ethical principle that should inspire people each day.
PEAK Athlete Chelsea Jaensch’s Olympic Story
Chelsea quit athletics for seven years because of injuries and disillusionment with the sport that made her a national under-18 champion. In February 2016, she nailed an Olympic qualifying leap and personal best of 6.70m in Canberra. She was on the plane to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
After her break from the sport, Chelsea took up athletics again as a coping mechanism when experiencing a bout of anxiety that had often left her feeling uncomfortable in the most common of social situations. Athletics was a way for Chelsea to challenge herself mentally and physically—to be the best version of herself. It was an outlet that enabled her to Dream Big, meet new friends, and have experiences not felt possible.
More than gold medals
The Olympic Movement goes much deeper than just winning gold medals. de Coubertin had a vision to build a better world through sport. Each day sport and exercise offers us the capacity to make changes in our lives. They are vehicles to become the best version of oneself, make new friends and respect the people and things around us.
