In preparation for the event, PEAK athletes participated in numerous long runs and sessions designed by our podiatrists. They also helped build the running plan to get athletes from small runs into their chosen distances. This process happened over a 16 week period which requires commitment to at least 3 runs per week and many hours on weekends completing long runs. 

 

Another service that many athletes use are the prevention classes at PEAK to improve lower limb strength to get them through their event.  These sessions are there to work towards the goals of these athletes to get through the event and power them to the finish line.

One of the runners that completed his first marathon is PEAK coach, Coen. He set the goal of running his first marathon at the beginning of 2023. Having not done a run over 20km before, Coen set off by starting prevention classes to build strength and prepare his body for the event. Coen attended all the PEAK long runs, building the distance in his legs and getting the body used to the nearly 5 hour event. Coen was able to finish the run in under 5 hours using very consistent pacing throughout.  

 

The Gold Coast marathon was another great example of athletes at PEAK dreaming big and achieving experiences not felt possible. By working through barriers and learning the skills of long distance running throughout, PEAK’s athletes were able to achieve great results over the weekend.  We look forward to upcoming PEAK experiences, Kokoda and Nepal to see more of our athletes getting the opportunity to Dream Big and achieve goals that are meaningful to them.
