I’m proud to have been a recipient of the Carol Cooper Award in 2020. Carol presented to PEAK in 2013 with knee pain and was initially reluctant to open up on why she needed our help. After understanding her ‘why’, PEAK were able to support her to achieve her own experience not felt possible by climbing the clock bell tower in the city to celebrate her 30th wedding anniversary.

This award could be named after many, many athletes with similar stories to Carol. She encompasses the need to understand why someone seeks our help, a willingness to get uncomfortable and choose their pain. The pain of discipline or the pain of dysfunction are equally painful but at PEAK we will always choose the pain of discipline.

Which brings me to my own experience not felt possible in 2023! For those who have not seen my vision board or heard me talk about it, I am heading to Scotland later this year and will be completing the 3 PEAKs Challenge. This requires you to summit the three highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales within 24 hours.

Hiking has been close to my heart since my youth and it will be special to achieve this experience alongside close friends, many of whom I have not seen since moving to Australia. Each mountain (or munro) as we call them in Scotland, taken in isolation, will take around 4 to 5 hours to summit and descend. As you’ll see from the photo, there is a fair distance between each so we have a support crew to help drive us safely between destinations as we move from Ben Nevis to Scafell Pike and finally Snowdonia. We will start the experience at 7am and if all goes well, finish before 7am the next morning.

I’ll be posting another blog in 2 months to provide an update on how my training is developing with the support of our PEAK Coaches and some information about a charity that I’ll be fundraising for.
