Read moreThese tournaments bring together golfers from all over the world, all chasing better performance, more consistency, and the chance to elevate their standing as Australia’s summer of golf kicks off. And while every golfer has a unique swing, the patterns that emerge across tournament week are surprisingly similar. The great news? Most of them are highly fixable. In this blog, I want to share what really happens in the treatment medical room, the most common physical issues players present with, and the TPI driven strategies that help golfers move better, swing better, and play at their best.

Golf performance isn’t just about clubs or technique — it’s about how well your body moves.
As a TPI-certified physio, my role during tournament week is to:
Across both events, three physical problems showed up every single day.
Low Back Pain
Long tournament weeks magnify small mobility limitations.
When these areas don’t move well, players compensate through their lower back — especially with early side bend, early extension, or forced rotation. Combine this with flights, hotel beds, practice rounds, and back-to-back events, and it’s no surprise that low back pain becomes the #1 request in the treatment room.
Lead Hip Pinching or Stiffness
Lead hip symptoms typically came from:
Understanding a golfer’s unique hip anatomy is essential — and is a core part of the TPI Body-Swing Connection model. Not every hip is built the same, and technique often needs to be tailored accordingly.
Neck Tightness
One of the most under-appreciated mobility requirements in golf is neck rotation. You simply need adequate neck motion to achieve a tour-level pivot.
Professional golfers often request neck treatment due to:
This load accumulates fast, and hands-on treatment becomes essential to keep them feeling loose and performing at their best.

One standout observation in the medical room was just how deliberate, structured, and individualised player warm-ups are.
Tour pros:
Their schedule typically looks like:
This preparation helps them stay consistent across long tournament weeks — and it’s a level of intention that most amateur golfers can benefit from emulating.
We’ve expanded our TPI team and upgraded our facilities to create one of the most comprehensive golf-performance setups in Queensland.
