Goals of Chiropractic Shoulder Treatment

Our first goal of helping to treat your shoulder pain, is understanding what the injury is, or where it may be coming from. This may be completed by:

  • Orthopaedic testing
  • Imaging (only if required)
  • Functional assessment
  • Subjective information
  • Referral to a specialist if the injury exceeds our capabilities

Our second goal.

Our second goal (depending on the type of injury), is to try and reduce your pain levels. This depends on the severity of the injury, as well as the goals you are wanting to achieve out of your consult. This may include:

  • Soft tissue release
  • ART (Active Release Technique)
  • Dry Needling
  • Mobilisation of the shoulder and/or vertebrae
  • Spinal Manipulative Therapy (SMT)
  • Taping

Our third goal.

Our third, and the most important goal is to understand and prescribe the most relative exercises for your rehabilitation. This may include.

  • Mobility work for your shoulder and/or thoracic spine
  • Strength work
  • Myofascial release work

Does spinal manipulative therapy (SMT) help with shoulder pain?

This is one of the most common questions asked to chiropractors regarding shoulder pain. The answer to this is not the same for everyone, but it may be a large benefit if your shoulder pain has a mobility deficit.

SMT may help increase your mobility for a short to medium period of time but there is still rehabilitation to support these changes and achieve long term prevention.

Whilst our Chiropractors are expertly trained in SMT, they are also experts for rehabilitation of the affected area, which is perfect for not just focusing on your short term, but your long term goals and ongoing health.
