Throughout 2021 Sean had a run assessment with Podiatry coach Chelsea and attended weekly Prevention classes. Through hard work, commitment and a lot of calf raises, Sean completed the Sunshine Coast Half Marathon in October 2021.

Although this was a massive achievement, it wasn’t enough for Sean. He still had his eyes on the full marathon. The full marathon had a lot of meaning behind it for Sean. He wanted to complete it with his sister Cat all whilst raising money for an important charity. Sean chose to raise money for the Children’s Hospital after his daughter had spent time there.

Having a strong internal reason and driver to why this was so important to him, Sean was prepared to leave no stone unturned. Sean committed to his training by attending PEAK team long runs, Stride Club, weekly Prevention with Michael and regular maintenance sessions with Erica. One month out from the race Sean had a flare up in his calf pain.

Although still determined, Sean will be the first to admit that straining his calf so close to the marathon was definitely worrisome. Sean continued to train as best he could, was diligent with his exercise program and had regular physio appointments. Sean had also come down with COVID in the lead up which hit him pretty hard.

Despite every setback that came his way, Sean still turned up on the day with the mentality that he will finish this marathon no matter what. And that is exactly what he did. Sean left nothing out on the course and was able to finish by running across the finish line holding his 2 daughters hands.

The race didn’t go as planned for Sean and he has already said that he will be back next year to finish what he started. We couldn’t be more proud of Sean and his ability to leave no stone unturned – especially considering all of the setbacks that he overcame. We are excited to continue supporting him and see what goals he will conquer in the next 12 months!
