Every athlete faces moments where their goals are challenged. Injuries can create uncertainty, frustration, and doubt — but they can also become opportunities for growth, resilience, and a stronger return.

For Corey Quinlan, that opportunity came on 8 June 2026 when a shoulder dislocation during touch football forced him away from the sport he loves. While the injury was a significant setback, Corey’s response has been a powerful example of what it means to embrace the process, commit to improvement, and create an Experience Not Felt Possible.

Six weeks later, Corey’s progress tells a story of discipline, determination, and a relentless commitment to getting better.

Choosing Your Pain

The road back started with uncertainty. Following the dislocation of his right shoulder, Corey underwent assessment and imaging, which identified a Bankart lesion but no obvious fractures. Initially, his shoulder was painful, movement was limited, and there were restrictions around lifting and returning to normal activity.

For any athlete, the hardest part of injury is often not the physical challenge — it is the patience required. The desire to get back immediately must be balanced with the discipline to do things the right way.

Corey understood that a successful comeback would require embracing the uncomfortable parts of rehabilitation. The controlled strengthening sessions, progressive loading, and commitment to every step of the process represented Choose Your Pain — accepting the challenges now to achieve something greater later.

Mastering His Game

From the beginning, Corey’s goal was not simply to feel better — it was to return stronger and more prepared than before.

The rehabilitation process focused on restoring full movement, rebuilding shoulder strength, and developing the confidence required for the demands of both work and sport.

The improvements have been significant:

  • Full pain-free shoulder range of motion restored
  • Strength steadily rebuilt through progressive loading
  • External and internal rotation strength increased to 8kg
  • Bench press progressed to 20kg
  • Overhead press progressed to 20kg
  • Continued progression toward sport-specific demands

At six weeks post-injury, Corey is now entering the next stage of his rehabilitation, introducing plyometric exercises to prepare his shoulder for the speed, power, and unpredictable movements required in touch football.

This progression reflects Master Your Game — focusing on the details, building the foundations, and continuously striving for improvement.

Wanting the Ball

Returning from injury is about more than physical capacity. It is about confidence.

For Corey, stepping back onto the field will require trust in his shoulder, belief in his preparation, and the willingness to embrace competition again.

That mindset represents Want the Ball — the ability to step forward when challenges arise, take responsibility, and have the confidence to perform when it matters most.

Rather than letting injury define his season, Corey has used it as motivation. Every training session, every strength milestone, and every progression has moved him closer to his goal: returning to touch football at the 10-week mark.

Strength in Numbers

No comeback happens alone.

Corey’s journey has been supported by the combined efforts of his healthcare team, support network, and the team at PEAK. Through collaboration, guidance, and a shared commitment to his goals, Corey has been able to progress safely while continuing to challenge himself.

At PEAK, our role has been to provide the structure, expertise, and accountability required to help Corey return stronger. From restoring movement early in rehabilitation through to progressive strength training and preparing for sport-specific demands, every stage has been built around helping Corey achieve his goals.

This is the meaning behind Strength in Numbers — when athletes, clinicians, teammates, and supporters work together, extraordinary outcomes become possible.

More Than the Result

Looking back, Corey’s biggest achievement is not just the numbers in the gym or the timeline of his return. It is the resilience and confidence he has built throughout the process.

A shoulder dislocation could have been seen as a roadblock, but Corey chose to see it as a challenge to overcome. He has demonstrated patience, commitment, and a willingness to put in the work when nobody else is watching.

Next comes the exciting part — continuing to build power, introducing more dynamic movements, and preparing to return to the sport he loves.

Corey’s journey is a reminder that setbacks do not have to slow us down. With the right mindset, the right support, and the commitment to keep moving forward, challenges can become the moments that create our greatest achievements.

An Experience Not Felt Possible is not found by avoiding adversity — it is created by how we respond to it.
